Mobile App

Both Norton and Malwarebytes extend their antivirus protection to the user’s mobile devices. Both software support web protection and system scan for mobile devices. Norton also includes a VPN with its mobile app although with limited choice in VPN locations. Malwarebytes supports a function to block ads and trackers when navigating on browsers from mobile. Moreover, it automatically forwards spam messages into the junk folder.

Malware Detection

Both softwares have a very efficient anti-malware engine. This is complemented by their extensive malware database that is constantly updated by the manufacturers. While both softwares are extremely valid, Malwarebytes seems to take a bit longer times to scan the system as opposed to Norton. Both Norton and Malwarebytes have also an excellent real-time protection engine that protects the user when navigating the internet.

Ad Blocker

Malwarebytes and Norton both offer Ad blocker functions in both their desktop and mobile apps. While such a function can be useful to avoid intrusive pop-ups and potentially dangerous ADs, both softwares seem to fail to keep up with the development of the ADs they ain to block. Both softwares fashion a less than perfect AD blocker software which often fails to block most if not all of the ADs on any given website.

Encrypted Storage

Encrypted Storage is a feature that anyone interested in their Data Security would want in an antivirus. Unfortunately, both softwares fail to provide safe storage for sensitive data. While both Norton and Malwarebytes aim to directly neutralize any threat before it can get to the user’s data, no antivirus can guarantee 100% protection at all times with the rapid development of new malware.

Webcam Protection

Norton offers a function to protect the user’s webcam from being accessed by unauthorized people. This serves both as privacy and sensitive data protection as no external person is able to access the video and audio feeds of the user’s device. Malwarebytes does not offer such a feature in its software.

Password Manager

Norton allows the user to store several passwords in a secure vault. Moreover, it has a password generator function to create strong passwords that will be stored in its vault ready to use when necessary. Malwarebytes currently offers no Password manager function.
